Harvest: November 2022.
Ingredients: Manaki and Megaritiki olive.
Producer: The Manginas Family—Marianna & George.
Origin: Kalentzi, Peloponnese, Greece.
Process: Superior category extra virgin olive oil obtained directly from mechanical (never chemical) means. The olives were milled within 24 hours of harvest. This oil is lightly filtered so it will have some cloudiness.
Agriculture: Regenerative. No/low-till. Minimal intervention. Non-irrigated.
Soil type: Calcium-based.
This oil comes to us from the powerhouse that is Marianna on a 14 hectares plot that this one-time city girl has been transforming into award-winning oil from her husband, George's family—the Manginas.

Together as a family, they are working in harmony with nature through improved farming practices like ground cover, no/low tillage, and incorporating chicken manure.

Tastes like...
A delicate and fruity single estate olive oil with aromas of red apple, oregano, and a hint of basil and mint. An elegant mouthfeel with even more dried herbs on the palate. The finish is long, with cracked black pepper and a gentle, lingering spice.

Pestos—In fresh, herby sauces like pesto, chermoula, and chimichurris! Perfect to put this over pasta, beans, potatoes.
Salads—Marinating summer tomatoes or drizzled over fruit salads.
Ice cream—Poured over vanilla ice cream with a bit of sea salt, or with crème fraîche over a chocolate cake with berries in the sunshine.

This oil was harvested when the olives were green but turning ripe on the trees. This batch came in at 359 mg/kg of polyphenols, which is above the 250 mg/kg benchmark set by EU Regulation (No. 432/2012) about high-polyphenol olive oils.

Currently, the only subscription we have is for our Olive Oil Club, which will provide you with a range of delicious oils throughout the year.
Our producers all farm organically to the EU standard without any synthetics or chemical "cides". However, as we only work with small farms, some have not yet been certified—which is why we cannot legally label them as “organic”, unless it has the certification. . Many of them, though, are well on their way in the conversion and audit process (it takes a few years), so we hope to share more soon.
Welcome you to the fascinating, yet very confusing world of extra virgin olive oil. We wrote an article all about the term "cold-pressed" if you'd like to read up in detail, but in short, it is just a marketing buzzword, as by legal definition in the EU, extra virgin olive oil is extracted without any heat or chemicals and only comes from the “first pressing” (more like squeezing) of the olives—which is exactly the definition of our products.
