  • Contract: Permanent FT
  • Hours: Mon-Fri (flexible working hours)
  • Salary: £75-85K
  • Location: Hybrid with coworking in central London

How to apply:

Please send us an email at apply@citizensofsoil.com with your CV attached along with a short note telling us why you’d be an asset to our start-up and what other DTC brand you feel we could take inspiration from.

What we’re looking for:

An experienced senior lead to own our DTC business. You will develop and execute a scalable, end-to-end strategy to drive revenue, customer growth, and loyalty to our e-commerce and subscription business.

You will be responsible for driving customer acquisition, retention, and revenue growth through digital marketing, CRM, website optimisation, and a best-in-class customer experience. This is a high-impact role that requires a strategic mindset, hands-on leadership, and strong analytical skills.

This person will report directly into the founders and work in close collaboration with team members in brand & marketing as well as operations. You’ll also manage an e-comm agency to support you with advertising and development, and have the opportunity to build out your own DTC team over time.

The ideal candidate:

  • Is results-orientated and can demonstrate a track record of wins that have impacted previous business.
  • Coming from a senior DTC, e-commerce, or growth marketing role within a subscription-based or food & drink brand.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing, customer acquisition, retention strategies, and data analytics.
  • Experience with performance marketing, SEO, CRM (Klaviyo), and website optimisation (Shopify).
  • Highly analytical mindset with expertise in data-driven decision-making.
  • Passion for customer experience, brand building, and innovation in the DTC space.
  • Leadership experience with the ability to manage and develop teams.
  • Has strong accountability and a solid work ethic.
  • Has a positive attitude and a tenacious character; things in our business can change quickly, so being comfortable reacting fast to unexpected opportunities and challenges will make this job exciting for you.
  • Proactive, independent and autonomous, whilst also friendly and collaborative in a small team and with our most valued partners.
  • Aligned with the mission and ethics of Citizens of Soil, specifically wanting to progress a mission around turning a commodity into a community to benefit people and planet.
  • Enjoys working in small, entrepreneurial, start-up environments.
  • Loves food & drink (it’s nice to take pleasure in what you do!)
  • Has a current right to work and live in the UK.
  • Can regularly commute into the central London office (Farringdon).

Your duties will include:

  • Customer acquisition: Own and optimise digital marketing channels (paid media, social, SEO, influencers, affiliates) to acquire high-LTV subscribers efficiently.
  • Subscription retention & experience: Improve membership offerings, pricing strategies, and customer engagement to increase subscription uptake, and minimise churn with a seamless experience for our valued Olive Oil Club members.
  • Website & conversion optimisation: Oversee UX/UI improvements, A/B testing, and CRO strategies to maximise conversion rates and optimise the end-to-end customer journey. You’ll manage all of the front-end elements of our e-comm platform (Shopify).
  • Analytics & performance tracking: Utilise data and insights to continuously optimise performance, report on key metrics, and inform decision-making.
  • Innovation & trends: Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging DTC technologies to keep our brand at the forefront of the market.
  • Content: Work with marketing to get copy and design, and then make sure every piece of content, from product thumbnails to blog articles, are well-crafted, engaging, and meticulously formatted for brand consistency.
  • Merchandising: Set up all new products, up/cross-sells, and bundles—looking for opportunities to grow the basket size and get people excited about our EVOOs.
  • People & planet: Be a champion of our sustainability ethos and look at every decision from an impact lens.

In return, you’ll get:

  • 28 days holiday, in addition to bank holidays (FT).
  • Equity in a scaling business.
  • Flexibility to support your work-life balance.
  • The sense of purpose that comes from working for something bigger than the business itself.
  • The finest extra virgin olive oils we can source (we’ll keep you stocked up with the good stuff)!

Diversity & inclusion:

At Citizens of Soil, our vision is for a more fair, sustainable, and flavourful table. And that starts with our team. We’re cultivating a culture of inclusion because we know we need a diverse team to learn and grow. We embrace your unique contributions and will work to ensure you feel a sense of belonging.

About Citizens of Soil:

We’re creating the UK’s favourite brand of olive oil; a show-stopping brand for modern citizens who care about quality, transparency, and sustainability.

We work with female-led groves who practise regenerative agriculture. Our oils represent the people and places they come from, with a line-up of inspiring producers across the Mediterranean under our brand, Citizens of Soil.

Our transparent supply chain means we can trace where every drop comes from and that fair pay is established from the beginning. We’re also a B Corporation using business as a force for good.

Led by an olive oil sommelier, we partner with artisan producers who prioritise
flavour and nutrition, which led us to become the most awarded extra virgin olive oil brand at the 2024 Great Taste Awards.

Favoured by Michelin-starred chefs in some of London’s top restaurants, you can
find their oils stocked in premium outlets like Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason, Waitrose, Ocado, Booths, and Abel & Cole.
