We’re not here to preserve the status quo—we’re here to build a new model.
Healthy soils make healthy oils.
We work exclusively with producers who understand the value of building soil health through regenerative and organic farming, and we visit them in the groves to observe their practices first-hand. This is not only better for the planet, it’s better for us: current research shows a strong connection between the level of organic matter in the soil and the nutrient density of the food we eat.
In the UK, ‘regenerative’ does not have a certified definition; it is a mindset and encompasses all sorts of nature-friendly farming practices. Here’s what it means for us, and our producers: farming organically with no synthetic chemical intervention (except as a last resort), low or no tilling of the soil, sowing cover crops to protect and enhance the soil structure while supporting biodiversity, incorporating grazing animals or their manure as natural fertiliser.
Refillable, reusable, returnable, recyclable.
We minimise our impact with reusable bottles and lighter refill pouches, which we take back for recycling to create a more circular model. Plus, we work with Notpla (winners of the 2022 Earthshot Prize) for our zero-waste, single-serve pipettes and are committed to constantly improving the sustainability of our packaging.
Championing women in agriculture.
Women face cultural, technical, and financial barriers in agriculture: we want to tear these down and offer women equal opportunities in the olive oil space. By working with groves that are at least 50% female-led and telling the stories of our producers, we aim to redress the imbalance, to bring equity to land ownership and our food chain while discovering truly exceptional EVOO.
From product, to supply chain, to wider business decisions, we commit to constantly questioning our model and pushing to do better by people and planet.
Our transparent supply chain means you can trace every drop of oil back to the land and community that made it. We’re proud of the people we source from and you can read their stories on our producers page.
In the commodity model, profits are concentrated in the hands of big players, leaving little for the small producers on the ground. We pay at least 20% above the commodity rate, which goes upwards of 100-150% for certain qualities and agricultural practices. Although we bring them all together under one brand, and consider them all citizens of soil, we also make sure to highlight each distinct producer on the bottle or pouch and celebrate their unique oil.
We received B Corp certification in 2023, meeting the high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency laid down by B Lab who are working to transform the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet.
Over the years we have taken investment from angels and family funds, many of whom have become leaders in investing in impact driven businesses. We are proud to say our largest contributions have come from women or female-led funds—a rarity in the fundraising world. Additionally, we only accept investment from people who understand our mission and accept that we make business decisions in pursuit of people and planet, not just profit. That means sustainable growth with additional investment going towards our producers.
From hybrid and flexible working hours to team harvest trips, we nurture a healthy work environment while encouraging a deep connection to our company mission. We’re an equal opportunity employer: we value diversity and the expansive thinking that it engenders.
